Via Mia Nutick ([livejournal.com profile] copperwise), in her post, In which Mia pimps herself and others for a good cause, I learned that there is a new anthology available for a very limited time, the proceeds of which will benefit musician S.J. Tucker ([livejournal.com profile] s00j), who has no health insurance and was recently hospitalized for nearly a week to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.

ATTENTION PUH-LEASE, darlings!

Below find the press release I've been anxious to put out. I am delighted to be contributing a story to this collection, in company with some incredible and amazing writers.

Visit [livejournal.com profile] satyrblade or [livejournal.com profile] damiana_swan for pre-order information on this anthology. Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman, Terri Windling...little old me...yeah, I'm very pleased about this one. And the profits go toward taking care of someone I love very much. Please pass this on to your friends who will be interested in this particular collection.

Via [livejournal.com profile] greenman_review (An Important (and Meaningful) Announcement):

On November 14th, beloved member of the Bay Area music community Michelle McFee underwent radical cancer surgery in San Francisco. From her early days as a Pegasus poet through her years working with the New Riders of the Purple Sage and into today, Michelle has been a constant in Bay Area music for over forty years.

To help defray her expenses, Blacklight Productions, in conjunction with the Kinkaid Foundation, has organized Words & Music: The Michelle McFee Benefit Concert. There is also a silent auction of unique items from the worlds of music, literature, and beyond. Both concert and auction are completely non-profit events; proceeds will go to defray Michelle's expenses.

Possibly no one else could have inspired the extraordinary lineup of talent who will take the stage on December 19th, at the Glaser Center, 547 Mendocino Boulevard, Santa Rosa. Doors open at 7:00. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door:

David Nelson and Special Guests, with David Nelson, Mark Karan, Pete Sears, Jimmy Sanchez, Peter Albin and Dave Getz, Rubber Souldiers, with Chris Rowan, Lorin Rowan (contingent on his availability), David Gans, Jimmy Sanchez and Robin Sylvester, Bill Cutler & Friends, with Bill Cutler, Patrick Campbell, Dave Perper, Steve Shufton and Peter Harris

Details about the show, auction, donations, and ticket presales can be found here.

We hope that, as a member of the Bay Area music and media world, you'll join us in getting the word out about a fantastic show for a remarkable member of our community.

But, you can help make it better.

From several sources, Vera Nazarian ([livejournal.com profile] norilana), of Norilana Books, is in need of help in order to keep her home and make needed repairs. For more details, please visit [livejournal.com profile] helpvera, where you can learn more about the specifics and about the auction taking place to help raise funds. There are some wonderful items/services being offered, including (but not limited to): some really beautiful handcrafted items by Stella Bloom ([livejournal.com profile] stellatangdele), books, an illustrated story written based on your prompt by World Fantasy Award winner, KJ Bishop ([livejournal.com profile] kulpunya, KJBishop.net), and a critique by Laura Ann Gilman ([livejournal.com profile] suricattus) of your cover letter, synopsis, and first three chapters/100 pages (whichever is less) of that novel you were planning on marketing.

(via [livejournal.com profile] ellen_datlow) One of the managing editors at Locus, Amelia Beamer, and her husband, have just lost her father-in-law, Arthur Jokela, to a heart attack. Jokela was traveling from Africa to Los Angeles when he died in London, in connection with work he did in Malawi and Mozambique for programs intended to help mitigate poverty. He had no life insurance and his travelor's insurance has not covered the costs of his cremation. The family is accepting donations to the Arthur Jokela Memorial Fund to cover funeral expenses and travel costs. For more detailed information, see [livejournal.com profile] ellen_datlow's post: Please help if you can.

Near the beginning of this month, I posted about Paul Haines, who has cancer and is currently in need of a $20,000 treatment that will not be covered by his insurance. The LiveJournal community [livejournal.com profile] artscaresyou is an auction fundraiser intended to help raise money for his medical expenses. In this post, Ellen Datlow [livejournal.com profile] ellen_datlow reminds us that the auction is now officially open. Please consider either donating something to the auction or making a purchase.

Per a post by nicolemurphy on the Conflux 5 minicon forum:

Paul Haines, a much-loved member of the Aussie specfic commuity is going through a tough time. After being diagnosed with bowel cancer, having sections of his bowel removed and enduring six months worth of chemotherapy, he has recently discovered he has spots on his liver. Paul has met this news by reloading his guns and is going to fight it with two other forms of chemotherapy for cancers like his, combined with a monoclonal antibody called Avastin. Avastin, however is not part of Medicare or the private health system's funding at this stage. It costs $20,000 to do it. Money that he doesn't have.

You can help by participating in an auction on the LiveJournal community [livejournal.com profile] artscaresyou. Please see the community for more information.

Edited to add that Paul is on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] paulhaines.
