John Adams Historical Night

This evening, Karl and I watched the first episode of the HBO series John Adams.
I was very pleased to see the complexity of the historical situation portrayed, although I had to turn away during the scene in which the customs officer was tarred and feathered. As a child, that always sounded a bit funny; it wasn't until I was older that I understood that the tar involved was extremely hot and that anyone undergoing this procedure was being severely burned, possibly unto death.
My only complaint is that during the quieter moments, we sometimes had difficulty understanding what was being said.
