I'm gacking the following link, as I found the article very interesting: An Article About Terry Pratchett. Plus, I want to see the movie mentioned within the article.

That was just lovely. When he talked, at the very beginning, about that serene feeling of everything being All Right, I completely understood what he was talking about--an underlying current of rightness.

I see people creating the divine, now and then, and it moves me to tears--like that dancing video that [livejournal.com profile] lnhammer posted.

I'm actually better able to relate to what he said about growing up and questioning everything. I especially appreciated his comment: "On the whole, I was probably a rather strange child, and I wonder what my life might have been like if I'd met a decent theologian when I was nine." That serene moment sounds lovely but, while I don't want to imply that I haven't had serene moments (if only because we get sunsets of overwhelming beauty), I don't think I've ever had one that I would consider a connection to some universal rightness. My little piece of the world may be wonderful, but I'm not sure I can connect that to a sense that everything is. Which may just be my own limitations.

I loved the dancing video and was quite moved by it, but for me it was laughter and a very strong desire to emulate the trip. Potential sponsors, please note that I am now accepting donations for the travel fund. ;->

Haha! My 15-year-old, who wants to find sponsors to help her fund a year's study in Japan, felt the same way regarding sponsors, when she saw that video--"where is my Stride gum??" she wanted to know.

Japan, huh? *G*

Ian also wanted to go to Japan when he was in high school and would still like to visit.

By boys attended a small private school (Grades pre-K through high school, with only ~100 kids total -- very alternative). One of the junior high teachers started an Anime class; a year later, he brought in a Japanese teacher. There was a high percentage of students with Anime & Japan Fever. Some of his classmates even made it over for study abroad options, although I didn't have the ability to finance Ian's trip.
