Obama is the presumptive nominee
Jun. 4th, 2008 01:12 pmBarack Obama now has sufficient delegates and is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. What an extraordinary moment. Karl and I listened to his victory speech and were blown away once more. It makes me feel good to think of someone of his intelligence, character, and, yes, eloquence, in the White House. This has been an incredible primary season. I was so impressed by the caliber of the Democratic candidates. I remember saying, during one of the early debates, that I wouldn't mind if any one of them won. As the primary continued, though, I found myself, over and over again, agreeing with Obama and seeing him as absolutely the most presidential.
I just read a very interesting article by Robert Creamer of the Huffington Post. In it, he describes Obama:
As Creamer stated elsewhere in the article, Obama inspires hope. Hope in a better future for ourselves as individuals, our country, and the world. I don't know if any president can pull off everything we hope for, but I do need that no one can pull it off without strong belief among the people that they can do so. We need someone who can inspire that kind of belief, just as we need someone with the level of stateship that Obama has displayed during his campaign, so far.

Inspirational, articulate, brilliant, funny, attractive and naturally empathetic - his history as a community organizer, his experience abroad, his beautiful family, accomplished wife, and adorable kids: Obama is the kind of candidate any campaign manager would want in any year. But he is perfect for this year. While the Clintons represented the Bridge to the 21st Century, Obama is the 21st century. His own, multi-cultural story is the future of America. As the campaign tested him, he showed he was cool, deliberate and effective under fire.
