"In America, through pressure of conformity, there is freedom of choice, but nothing to choose from."
- Peter Ustinov
"Faith is a cop-out. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can't be taken on its own merits."
- Dan Barker
"Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature."
- Tom Robbins

Date: 2008-09-09 04:02 am (UTC)And Ustinov! Ah, what a lovely, lovely man - I thoroughly enjoyed his take on things in "Romanoff and Juliet" (movie with Sandra Dee, of all people). And I've found since that his insights - and hence quotes - are as delightful as well!
I guess I will add the Quotes to my iGoogle, now. I've been waffling about that.

I enjoy the quotes, but they aren't always as good as this set was.
For instance:
I thought this one was okay: Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong. - George Carlin
I thought this one was great: What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books. - Thomas Carlyle
And I didn't agree with this one, at all: Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away. - Sir Thomas Beecham
