Our Christmas dinner involved lasagna, macaroni and cheese (yes, both, all food must be done to excess *g*), walnut cutlets with mushroom gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, potatoes au gratin (see prior note), Brussels sprouts, broccoli with cheese sauce, carrots viche, sweet potato casserole, mince pie, and (my single contribution to the cooking) molasses cookies (via this post by

I did not manage to sample every dish, but as we have tons of leftovers (due not just to the number of dishes, but to the fact that my husband and sons cooked far more food that is needed for a single meal). Much of this has been frozen for future meals and the rest is comfortably nestled in the fridge for leftovers. I had lasagna for lunch today, as this was one of the dishes I skipped last night.
Karl gave me two books, with a third on the way once it's published. The first is an illustrated, gilt top edge copy of The Tempest, which is my favorite of Shakespeare's plays (not that I've read all of them). This edition has a publication date of MCMI, which if I'm doing my Roman math correctly is 1901. The illustrations are described as "Decorations by Robert Anning Bell" and are very sweet. The only one of the illustrations I've found online, of Miranda, is from a limited edition version of the book I've got; mine is only in black and white. The second is a tattered, but very beautiful, ex-library copy of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens with full-color illustrated plates by Arthur Rackham. The book to come later will be

My book gifts to Karl were three tiny leather-bound books, each about 4"x6": Short Stories by Honoré de Balzac, "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Men's Wives Etc. (aka The Yellowplush Papers
Etc. Etc.) by William Makepeace Thackeray. (I'm not used to seeing one title on the spine of a book and another on the title page, but that's the case with that last book. I also got him an old-fashioned washboard and some thimbles, because I knew he'd love making music with them.
In addition, my brother sent us Spectrum 15
Our boys all got stuff, too, but the only books were one on computer game programming that probably weighed as much as all the other books put together and a cookbook.
